On July 06, 2015 at 1211pm the Niagara Regional Police Service, the Fort Erie Fire Department and Niagara EMS responded to Rich’s Products on Hagey Rd in Fort Erie for a chemical leak.
Police say the fire department discovered an ammonia leak had occurred within the plant and three people were affected by the leak.
Two people were taken to hospital with non-life threating injuries. One person was pronounced dead at the scene. No further information on the deceased will be released.
The leak was contained and there is no risk to the public.
The Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Labour will be investigating the incident assisted by Detectives from the Fort Erie Detachment of the the Niagara Regional Police and the office of the Coroner.
