At approximately 1:33 PM on Saturday June 6th, 2015 the Niagara Emergency Medical Services, Niagara Regional Police Service and Welland Fire Services were dispatched for a motor vehicle collision on Prince Charles Drive north of Lincoln Street in the City of Welland, within the Region of Niagara, Ontario.
Police say initial investigation revealed that a 55-year-old Welland male was riding his 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Prince Charles Drive in the curb lane with a 51-year-old female passenger. At the same time a 22-year-old Welland male driving a 2014 Volkswagen Passat exiting the Pioneer gas station lot drove across the path of the Harley-Davidson. The motorcycle came into collision with the driver’s side of the Volkswagen throwing both occupants from the motorcycle. The Volkswagen continued across the north and south bound lanes of traffic on Prince Charles Drive before coming to rest on the grass boulevard.
All three parties were transported to the Niagara Health System Welland Site by ambulance. The driver of the Harley-Davidson was later air lifted to the Hamilton Health Sciences General Hospital Site, where he remains in critical condition. The passenger on the Harley-Davidson and the driver of the Volkswagen were treated and later released from hospital.
This collision remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Forensic Services Unit.
