On Wednesday April 1, 2015 at approximately 2:11 pm members of the Niagara Regional Police Service attended the Niagara Health Systems St. Catharines Hospital for what was initially reported to be a bomb threat. Upon arrival hospital staff worked with police as both went through various safety protocols while the veracity of the threat was investigated.
Investigation by members of the Uniform Branch and 1 District Detective office revealed that an elderly male had made an utterance to staff at the Niagara Health System that was perceived as a threat. The subject left the hospital, was located and taken into custody a short time later by police. The hospital was cleared of any threat and returned to normal operations at approximately 3:20 pm. The individual taken into custody was interviewed and after further investigation was later released unconditionally.
