On Saturday January 31st 2015, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service, Special Enforcement Unit conducted “Operation Zero Tolerance” on Highway 20 near Rice Road in the Town of Pelham.
“Operation Zero Tolerance” is an initiative where Police in unmarked vehicles conduct speed enforcement in known problematic areas within the Region.
This area was targeted as a result of a recent motor vehicle collision resulting in very serious injuries.
Police say, between the hours of 9:15 a.m. and 1:45 p.m., a total of 54 motorists were issued Provincial Offence Notices for speeding. Of those charged, 8 drivers were travelling in excess of 30km/h over the speed limit, one of the drivers was speeding in excess 40km/h over the speed limit and one driver was charged with driving while under suspension. This particular driver’s licence had expired 37 years ago, and he been driving under suspension for the past 20 years.
The Niagara Regional Police Service remains committed to road safety through education and enforcement campaigns like “Operation Zero Tolerance”.
