On January 28, 2015 at approximately 6:50 AM the Fort Erie Fire Department, and the Niagara Regional Police Service attended the Flying J Truck Stop on Pettit Road in Fort Erie after a caller to 911 had reported a transport truck on fire in the parking lot.
Police say when the emergency services arrived on-scene they found a 2007 Sterling transport truck and trailer fully engulfed. The transport trailer was loaded with 10 new cars and the Fort Erie Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire. The Sterling transport truck, valued at $40,000 was destroyed.Three of the 10 cars appeared to be destroyed while the other seven are believed to have sustained smoke and water damage.
The damage value to the new cars is estimated between $90,000 to $400,000 depending on further inspection.The damage value to the parking lot surface from the fire has not been determined.The driver of the truck was unharmed and there were no reported injuries.
The cause of the fire is believed to have mechanical in nature.
