Police say the Niagara Regional Police By-Law Enforcement and Licencing Unit has received numerous complaints from members of the public and the industry workers regarding the illegal transportation industry in the Niagara Region.
Over the past few months members of the Licencing Unit, with assistance of the Niagara Falls Street Crime Unit, have investigated one local company identified as Spee-Dee Delivery.
On November 20, 2014 a Provincial Offences search warrant was executed at Murray St., Niagara Falls address. Items were seized in relation to this business. The investigation is ongoing with charges forthcoming.
The Niagara Regional Police By-Law Enforcement and Licencing Unit would like to remind the public that the vehicles and drivers of the cars used in the illegal transportation industry are not subject to regulation relating to vehicle safety and commercial insurance requirements.
Additionally, the drivers of the unlicenced vehicles are not subject to Police background checks which are normally monitored within the licenced taxi industry.
