Our thoughts are with the families of the Canadian Forces soldier who was shot and killed in Ottawa today as well as the Canadian Forces members involved in the tragic incident in Quebec earlier this week.
I have been in contact throughout the day with our Provincial and Federal law Enforcement partners. All members of the Niagara Regional Police Service are committed to working collaboratively to proactively identify threats that compromise public safety.
In light of these tragic events and recent developments relating to terrorism and radicalism both in North America and abroad, members of the public are urged to be vigilant. We encourage anyone witnessing activity that they believe to be suspicious to contact police immediately.
The investigation in Ottawa is still ongoing. The investigation is being conducted jointly by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Ottawa Police Service. As more information becomes available the public will be kept advised.
